New York Fashion Week: where bloggers, models and celebrities alike come together to get the inside scoop on the newest and hottest trends for the coming year. If you’ve ever been in New York during this time of year, you’ve experienced the absolute chaos that inevitably comes with this week. I’m talking stylists frantically running around West Village with garment bags, bloggers jumping into traffic in order to capture the perfect insta pic, and showrooms packed to the brim with fashion enthusiasts and press.
Here in LA, it got pretty quiet this week. Those of us who weren’t sitting front row at the fashion shows took to Instagram in order to stay up to date on what was happening. From our office chairs, we were merely left to admire this production from afar and swoon over all of the beautiful pieces that were showcased on the runway.
Over the course of this past week, we saw designers reveal their takes on the top trends and set the tone for the new year. So buckle up, because we’re going to take you through it right now. We’re about to break down all of the hottest trends of 2020 and show you how to take these looks from the runway to the street.
Here's how you can master the top trends for a lot less.
The Color Scheme
Last year neon had its comeback, and this year we’re going back to the basics… literally. Primary colors played a major role on the runway this year, and they’re here to stay. What’s so great about these colors is that they are the foundation of every other color, so they pair well with anything and everything. Think bright reds, blues, and yellows paired with vivid purples, greens, oranges, and pinks… it’s all game this year.

The Midi Skirt/Dress
The classic midi skirt is a favorite here at 2020AVE, and apparently we’re not the only ones who love it. Brandon Maxwell had a standout show this year, where he debuted an array of everyday looks that were simple and understated, yet undeniably stylish and chic. Specifically, midi skirts and dresses seemed to be a theme throughout his show, and we took note. For a minimal and modern look, pair a midi skirt with a simple tank. Wear this outfit with some chunky sneakers during the daytime, and at night simply swap the sneakers for heels et voilà… your outfit is completely transformed.

Layers, Layers... And More Layers
Layers are all the rage this year. Think colors, prints, textures… the more the better. For a more casual take on a layered look, pair a classic midi dress or skirt with a chunky sweater or cardigan on top of it. If it’s a little bit cooler, top off your look with an oversized denim or leather jacket. If you live somewhere that doesn’t get super cold, throw a simple slip dress over a long sleeve top in order to achieve a similar style. Pair this outfit with some chunky sneakers or combat boots for a comfy yet stylish look that’s perfect for the fall.

Prints
Another common theme this year: prints. Last year it was all about animal prints, and this year florals and other bold prints are all game as well. While floral tends to scream spring and summer, if paired with the right accessories, they can be perfect for fall too. Pair a floral dress with some combat boots and a leather jacket for an edgy yet girly look.

It's All About The Hair
And last but certainly not least, let's talk accessories. This year accessories played a major role in fashion week, so don’t look past them! The right hairpiece can take your outfit from 0-10 instantly, and this year no one held back. Take a sleek pony or bun to the next level with a cool piece to top it off. Pearl embellished clips, headbands and hair scarves make it easy to do a really interesting hairstyle in no time and are a cool way to add some extra color or texture to your look.
